More info to come…
We have several updates this week…
1.Reminder, NO GAMES this Sunday for Mother’s Day.
2.Don’t forget to check out the MMLL Facebook page. We have added several new members to the group. – Thanks Hazelrigg family for the pics!
MMLL Facebook Page
3.St. Louis Tournament for older group
– Coach Jason has indicate he would be interested in sticking around and helping coach a team. I think he mentioned it at practice on Wednesday.
– Dates of tournament are June 25-26. Guaranteed five full games.
– Location: St. Charles Soccer Complex
– Cost will probably be around $30 per kid.
– Need replies from all who might be interested by Wednesday, May 11th.
– If we get enough/close enough in numbers, we can include players from last year because it is a 15U age bracket. Once we know our numbers, we will see if we need to try to pull in a few additional 9th graders that still qualify.
– If you have any additional questions, feel free to send an email.
4.Save the date: We are planning to have an end of the season potluck May 22nd. More details to come.
5.Rock Bridge/Hickman LAX games are next week. Chance to see a more advanced version of the game on our off nights from practice. You have two opportunities. We hope one works out for you.
– JV game is Tuesday, May 10th @ Hickman
– Varsity game is Thursday, May 12th @ Hickman
-The coach for the High School Columbia Girls Lacrosse Team sent out an email to a few people who have contacted us/them with questions about a girls league. If anyone would like that email forwarded to them, please let me know and I will send you a copy.
7.MO Valley LAX Camp
– In the email, she mentions a camp at Missouri Valley College. Her comments are targeted toward the girls that have contacted us, but the same applies for the boys. This is a great opportunity to learn more and improve your skills at a camp fairly close to home.
“MO Valley is running a girls and boys lacrosse camp this summer for 6-12th graders. This is a great opportunity for your girls to learn the rules of the game and see that there is a future for girls in college to play! Many colleges in MO are starting lacrosse teams and heavily recruiting MO players to join them.”
Here is a link for the camp: http://mvclaxcamp.com/
Wow, what great weather we have had for our first two game weekends! The boys looked very good out there. Coach Jason and Coach Eric are doing a great job working with them.
We have a few updates we wanted to pass along:
In today’s email, we distributed a roster sheet separating the boys by age groups and in numerical order for quick reference. Hopefully, this will help everyone know who is who when we are watching the games. I have tried to format it to be highly visible on a mobile device, so hopefully you can read it from your phone.
We love our mothers! So we are going to take Sunday, May 8th off. Make sure you spoil Mom since you won’t be busy playing lacrosse that Sunday afternoon. Again, no games on Sunday, May 8th. *We will plan to play the games from that Sunday on the following Monday, May 9th during the normal practice time.
Just as a reminder, practices will continue to be on Soccer Field 6 for the remainder of the year.
Next Sunday’s Games:
We are going to mix up the schedule next week and let the 3rd-5th group go first. We have been having them go after the older boys, so they could arrive early and watch the game played by kids with a few more years experience. We thought this would be good for them to witness to maybe help with the teaching of how the game is played. But now, we would like to give them the opportunity to have the earlier time slot.
We will send another reminder later this week, but please plan for the 3rd-5th grade boys to arrive by 12:30pm to get dressed and warm up. The 6th-8th group should then plan to arrive at 1:30pm for a game following the conclusion of the younger guys.
See you at practice this week (if the weather hold up)
Practice will be cancelled on Monday, April 18th due to rain.
The new practice field does not have lights, so it is not safe to practice.
See you on Wednesday (if weather hold up).
Great first games of the season for both age groups! Before next week’s games, I will send out a roster with kids numbers. Then everyone will know who is who.
We appreciate everyone’s patience today (especially the younger group who arrived early and ended up staying late). Things were a little slow going today and should be better next week. We have a lot of new guys and that takes some time getting going on the first game with some of the rules and general organization that is needed for game play. Hopefully the younger guys were able to watch the big guys a little bit and pick up some tips on how the game moves.
Practices will now be on Soccer Field 6. (See attached map image) This was the original plan as we worked out a deal with the Columbia Parks & Rec to use this field for practice, so we wouldn’t tear up the “game” field used by both Football and Lacrosse. The confusion came from Soccer Field 6 not being ready with goals for our first few weeks of practice. We have been told they are now.
US Lacrosse Registration
If you did not include your child’s US Lacrosse registration number and expiration date with your registration, please send that as a response to this email. We will be sending out emails to those kid’s parents where we don’t have this information. It is imperative we have it, as this provides us the liability insurance we need as an organization.
Rain Out Info:
There is a possibility for rain this week, for rainout conditions, we will try to send an email and post to the webpage. However, you can also call the Columbia Parks & Rec Rain Hotline at 573-874-7663. They usually have final notification by 4pm.
See you at practice tomorrow.
We have had a great first couple of weeks of practice. Now it is time for some game action.
Games this Sunday:
The 6-8th grade games will be at 1pm (be there by 12:30pm)*.
The 3-5th grade games will be at 2pm (be there by 1:30pm)*.
*It is important to arrive early to get dressed and warm-up before the game.
Make sure your kids have all of the appropriate gear, including mouth pieces. Don’t forget to bring water.
US lacrosse Membership:
We will have a check in sheet to register the boys numbers to their names. For those that registered online and provided your US Lacrosse Membership and Expiration Date, we will have it on record. If you didn’t, please bring it with you on Sunday. We need this confirmation to ensure we have liability coverage and that no one is playing that is not registered.
Rain Out Info:
While we should not need it this week, for rainout conditions, we will try to send an email and post to the webpage. However, you can also call the Columbia Parks & Rec Rain Hotline at 573-874-7663.
Enjoy the weather this weekend and see you on Sunday!
Just a few notes before we head into Spring Break.
If you have not registered yet please do so as this will give us a better idea of the numbers we will have this year. Also, if you know of anybody with kids in the 3rd – 8th grade that are not currently registered in a Spring sport, let them know that lacrosse is an excellent way to get active. Experience in not necessary, even in the upper grade levels. And, I know the high school teams are needing us as a feeder program to support the teams. This is one sport where the current competition for spots on the team is not as restrictive as many of the other main stream sports. This makes it an excellent opportunity for your child to recruit some friends and have to opportunity to be active in a sport at the high school level together.
Also remember that practices start on Monday, April 4th and will be every Monday and Wednesday until the season ends with the final games on May 22nd. So, the last practice will be Wednesday, May 18th.
Games will begin on Sunday April 17th.
Below are the links for the Hickman and Rock Bridge LAX teams. You may want to check out their schedules and check out a game or two. (Specifically, Thursday, May 12th where RB plays Hickman at Hickman to see who takes home the “Golden Cross” this year!)
Have a great and safe Spring Break and see you at the first practice.
It has been reported that we had a clerical error in our previous communications regarding when practices start in both the email (from Feb 23rd) and the website post on that same day.
I have highlighted and corrected the error in the previous poste below in red, but just to confirm, practices start on April 4th.
We had a great turnout for the first clinic as we had several new boys show up. Our next one is on Saturday, March 19th at 10am at the ARC during the first Farmer’s Market. So, it is a great time to bring a friend and their family to enjoy what the market has and expose them to the “fastest sport on two feet.”
Our last clinic will be next Wednesday, March 23rd at 6pm back at the Cosmo field 6.
Hope to see you there!
Sorry for the confusion.
******Just a reminder******
Don’t forget to invite your friends. This is a great opportunity to try out the “fastest sport on two feet” or to tune up your skills from last year!
We will have three FREE Lacrosse Clinics for anyone interesting in taking a test run to see if Lacrosse is something they would like to try. Feel free to attend one or all three.
- Wednesday, March 16th, 6 – 7:15pm at Cosmo park Lacrosse/Football Field 6
- Saturday, March 19th, 10-11:30am at the fields by the ARC
(during the first Farmer’s Market, so check us out while you are enjoying the market.)
- Wednesday, March 23rd, 6 – 7:15pm at Cosmo Park Lacrosse/Football Field 6
We will have coaches and volunteers available to run through some basic skills with your child. We will have extra equipment for use during the clinics for those that are new to the sport. Again, this is an excellent way for your child to try-before-you-buy.
If you have played with us before, bring a friend or two to try out the sport!
Also, don’t forget registration is now open. To register, simply go to the Boys Annual Registration page.
